Sometimes it startles me how fast the circle of writers in my tribe expands. Kelsey Cheyenne was part of the Spice Holiday Kisses small town romance anthology that release before Christmas.* I was familiar with her before because of my connections with two other authors who contributed to the book. I’m also crazy happy to say that I get to work with Kelsey this fall!
Until I get my hot little hands on her next anthology piece, I’ve got Kelsey’s latest release, "My Almost", on my TBR.
*As a side note: if you are interested in purchasing this sampler of 5 short stories it is only available for a limited longer!
Q: Author: dream job or never expected to be doing this? A little of both. I’ve always loved to read and write and used to write stories as a kid, but I always thought/planned to end up in the medical field.
Q: Legit, you studied Neuroscience. (WOW!) Did you expect that so many romance writers would have such varied backgrounds and do you use what you learned in your books? No! For the longest time I thought writers were always just creative writing majors. I never thought I could do something like this. I do use my knowledge to an extent, but I definitely plan to have an entire novel/storyline around neuroscience in some way. It’s so fascinating to me and I know so much about it that I have to.
Q: What’s the biggest surprise from when you decided to publish until now? How supportive the community is. Everyone I’ve met really does try to help each other out the best they can.
Q: Name one thing you have to have to sit down to write. A deadline! I procrastinate SO MUCH so without a deadline I can get sidetracked and push everyone onto the back burner until I’m forced to write 10k the day before I send my MS off to the editor.
Q: How is writing on your third full-length novel different than the first? It seems crazy but I’ve already learned so much and can tell my writing is changing. I’m more aware of things I need to avoid- adverbs, words like hear/see/smell etc.
Q: Plug it, girl! What do you think readers are going to love best about My Almost? I think people will love My Almost for the same reason they’re scared of it. It’s real and relatable. Every woman has been a Chelsea and has dealt with an Aiden. It’s realistic which some people don’t want in a book, but it’s a story I had to tell. The emotions are real and raw and you’ll feel them right alongside Chelsea.
Q: Tell us more about Aiden? Aiden is the kind of guy that makes you want him. He’s charming, hilarious, tall, smart, caring, outgoing, gorgeous, athletic- he’s the whole package. But he’s unattainable which makes you want him more. He keeps you on your toes with sweet words and promises but he’ll keep pushing you away. He’s your best friend first and you can’t help but fall in love with him. Even when he blindsides you and breaks you, you still don’t hate him, ‘cause that’s just the kind of guy he is. He’ll break you and build you back up over and over again until a part of you will always belong to him.
Q: What’s your favorite social media (FB, Twit, IG, Pinterest, etc…) Facebook or Instagram.
Q: Do you have a post-release binge or celebration? I’m a TV whore and will binge an entire season in a day to unwind.
