I'm attached to these people

I worked on a secret project this week. The only hint I’ll give you is that Jake from Bleeding Heart was in it.

Like revisiting Anson and Rae Lee in their second love story, spending time with Jake—three years after writing him—was a lot of fun.

I forget how attached I get to these people.

And yes, I know they’re not real.

Though they do live rent-free in my head.

I think what I love best about Shattered Hearts of Carolina is how varied the characters are.

As writers were told to stay in our lane…Don’t mix new adult characters with later-in-life characters. If you’re a novel writer, don’t write short stories under the same pen name. Definitely don’t drop a psychic medium into the middle of a contemporary romance book series. LOL!

While I haven’t had a friend with Rae Lee’s paranormal abilities, I’ve had plenty of friends who are older or significantly younger than I am. I know empty nesters (I’m about to become one!) and people who have become parents at the same age as other people have become grandparents. Most especially, I’ve seen people live second-chance romances.

Reading is an escape from reality, but mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, brothers and sisters, best friends… the one person you can go to for advice no matter how different your circumstances are? They’re real.

And that’s what builds connections with characters. So, maybe that's why I love writing and re-reading these romances so much!
