Are your kids back in school?
I sort of luck out that my kids are independent now—I also handed them laundry detergent, rubber gloves, and a toilet bowl brush at an early age, and my husband taught them how to mow and edge the lawn. So, I get more free time than most. But it’s different when summer turns to fall and the house is quiet.
After a wonderful few months with our middle son, my husband and I dropped him back off at college. Then we continued on the Charleston, South Carolina, where we spent our 25th anniversary at a landmark hotel at the heart of the city.
The restaurants we ate at were fabulous, and I don’t think I’ve drank that much complimentary champagne since our honeymoon!
During one of our many walks, we went to the Pineapple Fountain, which is featured in Mend My Soul. We also took a horse-drawn carriage ride in the pouring rain. And you know what? Walking back to our hotel, soaked to the bone, we’d had a really great adventure.
Our youngest son, happy to be an “only child” again, started his senior year of high school. He already has college acceptances, which takes the pressure off. I can’t wait to see what he chooses to do after graduation in the spring!
If you’re wondering why my social media accounts have been quieter, I’ve stepped back from posting, both for my emotional well-being and because I’ve realized what I enjoy most about being a writer is writing books. Novel, huh? I’m writing ahead, having completed new love stories for 2026, that I hope you’ll adore!
